The Washington Post yesterday posted on its website an article on neck manipulation and stroke (“How Safe Are the Vigorous Neck Manipulations Done by Chiropractors?”).
Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) will be listed equally with other types of physicians and will no longer have any limitations attached to their definition of physician under the 2014 Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) Service Benefit Plan , as authorized by the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) law.
This afternoon the Senate passed the House bi-partisan budget bill which contains a three month Medicare SGR reimbursement patch and a three month extension of the therapy cap exceptions process. It postpones the pending 2014 20% cut in Medicare reimbursement and instead contains a 0.5% increase through March 31. The President has indicated he will sign the bill.
Recent news indicates that CMS may delay implementation of electronic health record (EHR) requirements for the stage 2 and stage 3 meaningful use incentive programs. To date, 60 percent of providers have begun utilizing EHR meaningful use. Doctors of chiropractic have a considerably lower percentage. I have been told that $50 million has been provided to DCs so far, and that $150 million is expected this year from the federal incentive program. The current deadline for providers and hospitals to achieve meaningful use is slated for October 2014, but a new proposal may alter that date in the near future. Please visit ACA’s dedicated EHR webpage to learn more and to stay informed.
The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) has learned that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will increase the value of Chiropractic Manipulative Treatment (CMT) CPT® codes up to 10 percent in the 2014 Physician Fee Schedule beginning Jan. 1. The change comes after ACA provided CMS-appointed coding committees with key information about the physician-level work involved in the procedures.
Dec. 31 is an important deadline for eligible professionals (EPs) participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. It marks the last day of the 2013 meaningful use program year. If you are an EP participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program, you have until 12:00 a.m. EST on Feb. 28 to attest for meaningful use of data collected during the reporting period for the 2013 calendar year. Payment adjustments will be applied beginning Jan. 1, 2015 if you haven’t already successfully demonstrated meaningful use.
Eligible professionals (EPs) participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program may be subject to payment adjustments beginning on January 1, 2015 . CMS will determine the payment adjustment based on meaningful use data submitted prior to the 2015 calendar year. EPs must demonstrate meaningful use prior to 2015 to avoid payment adjustments.
It’s that time of year again. You are probably planning your budget, setting goals, and designing an incentive and rewards program to align employee goals with your practice goals. Sounds pretty easy, right? So why do we find it so hard to get everybody on the same page?
