A mass survey of citizens aged 50 to 89 years examined whether cognitive decline could be detected by sagittal spinal balance measurement based on a radiological approach. Doctors from Shinshu University observed associations between sagittal vertical axis (SVA) anteriorization and higher age with lower cognitive function. The sagittal vertical axis is the length of a horizontal line connecting the posterior superior sacral end plate to a vertical plumbline dropped from the centroid of the C7 vertebral body (Photo 1). The more the head and neck protrude in front of the pelvis when viewed from the side, (the greater the length) the more likely subjects are to show symptoms of mild cognitive decline. In males, the SVA was associated with cognitive decline independently of age. In females, cognitive decline was more likely in cases of SVA that is equal to or greater than 70mm regardless of age.
In the quest to retain workers, companies are sharpening their focus on a very specific common goal: 90 days.
In a recent study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, researchers investigated the association between a complete 10-second one-legged stance and all-cause mortality. Aging is correlated to the progressive decline in physical health and reduction in elements of aerobic and non-aerobic fitness. Moreover, several studies have shown a reduction in the balance after the age of 55 years, thus increasing the odds of sustaining a fatal fall and other adverse outcomes. https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/2022/06/22/bjsports-2021-105360.
The most common types of NSAIDs include aspirin, ibuprofen (commonly referred to as Advil), and naproxen (known by the brand name Aleve and Naprosyn). However, despite their popularity, these medicines can have side effects. According to McGill University and colleagues in Italy, using anti-inflammatory drugs and steroids to treat pain may increase the risk of developing chronic pain. Their findings call into question traditional pain-relief methods. Normal recovery from a severe injury involves inflammation, and medicines that prevent that inflammation may result in more difficult-to-treat pain.
On Thursday, April 7, just before a two-week congressional recess, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), joined by his colleagues Sens. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), introduced S. 4042, the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act , a bipartisan companion to the legislation of the same name, H.R. 2654, in the House. The Senate bill was immediately referred to the Finance committee, which has jurisdiction over all matters related to the Medicare program.
We have seen similar messages in the last few months. These emails are summarizing cases that are part of OCR’s HIPAA Right of Access Initiative. This initiative is targeted at offices that do not release information when properly requested or release when they should not have. This is not surprising as the proposed changes to HIPAA were released for comment and they focus on strengthening individuals’ rights to access their own health information.

Sometimes it takes a conscious effort to remove the negativity. Looking for the good in some instances is hard. In business, there are highs and lows. Positivity can help you grow through the lows ultimately resulting in your next high being higher than your last. Thrive on the positivity.

My husband thinks this joke is extremely funny. I say, “Are you even listening to me?” and he says,” What were you saying something?” He finds it hilarious; me not so much.

There is a popular motivational audio clip. He says… ” There are three types of people in the world. Those who watch things happen. Those who wonder what happened, and those who make things happen.”
As we move into this New Year it’s a great time to review your HIPAA Policies & Procedures and ensure compliance throughout the practice. Many of you have had staff turnover and policies you had in place even a year ago may have fallen by the wayside. As we all know, one of the most important regulations is HIPAA. While we always think of HIPAA as a privacy law it is also an access law. Just a few weeks ago OCR released examples of five physician practices that have had complaints from patients who have been unable to get access to their records after multiple attempts. Each of these offices had to undergo an investigation, agree to monitor, and pay a fee.
The House and Senate passed S.610, which addresses the looming Medicare payment cuts and President Biden has signed the bill into law. This means that the cuts have now been delayed, but only for a while.

My daughter would start playing Christmas music in July. I would ask her, “Why are we listening to this months before Christmas?”. Her response was, “It makes me happy!”
